FOUNDER & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Dee Jae Cox is the Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director of The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Project, a 501c3 California Nonprofit Corporation, founded in 2007. The LAWTP's mission is to advocate, educate and create opportunities for women in the Performing Arts. The LA Women's Theatre Project is an award winning organization that has served in the role of Producer or Fiscal Sponsor for over 100 projects that were written, directed and spearheaded by women.
WRITER
Dee Jae Cox is a multi-Produced and award winning Playwright, and the author of the critically acclaimed plays,
“Prove It On Me”,
“The Rape of Djuna Barnes”
“Letters Home”
and the highly popular stage performance pieces; “Literature in Motion.”
Dee Jae has been a writer since first learning the alphabet, serving as the Editor of her High School and College Newspapers.
In addition to Cofounding The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Project, She has served as the Artistic Director since the organization's founding in 2007.
She is a freelance Writer, Director and Producer, as well as hosting Californiawoman411 on KPTR AM 1450 radio.
DIRECTOR/PRODUCER
Dee Jae has Produced a multitude of productions and events for the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Project since its founding in 2007. She not only wrote, but Produced the 2009 Palm Spring’s production of ‘Prove It On Me’. She created and Produced the 2008 and 2009 ‘20% New Works Festivals’ and The 2010 ‘Women In The Arts’, all incredible 3-day events that featured the combined works of over 200 women artists in various genres. In 2011 she conceived and Produced “Ready For Our Close-Up” Showcasing the works of women playwrights whose plays were ready for full production.
She Directed the LAWTP’s 2011 Production of Jane Chamber’s Award Winning Play, “Last Summer At Bluefish Cove.”, Lavina Robert's "Little Scholar", numerous "Literature In Motion" productions, a concept she created staging the compilation of three novels into a comprehensive stage production. She had directed an abundance of readings for various theatrical events. In 2012 she produced the Palm Springs 'Women's Pride Night" and created the "Taking The Helm" Fiscal Sponsorship and Production Assistance Program.
In 2014 she directed Jeanne Taylor's 'The Estrogen Map" for the 2Cents Theatre Company and enjoyed the production of her own short play "I Passed" as a part of the "INK Fest" at the Hudson Theatre in Hollywood.
In 2015 and 2016 she Produced the acclaimed "Women Making History - a Work in Progress" with notable speakers such as Actress, Lucie Arnaz, Attorney/Social Justice Advocate Liz Abzug, Author, Lillian Hellman and acclaimed success Supreme Court Attorneys Sarah Weddington (Roe v Wade) and Roberta Kaplan (Marriage Equality.)
PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Dee Jae is an experienced, organized and creative Producer and Director. She has an extensive background and experience in nonprofit management, having worked for over 20 years as a Program Director, developing programing for homeless, victims of domestic violence, seniors, and HIV, as well as Theater and the Performing Arts . Her left brain/right brain skills have allowed her to create Program and Production budgets, as well as write scripts for the stage.
U.S. ARMY VETERAN
Dee Jae, is a veteran of the U.S. Army, Military Police Corp. Serving her country and living in foreign cultures gave her a unique perspective on what it means to be an American. Patriotism is not just a word tossed about for political banter, it is a deeply held and respected belief. And it means that all Americans, regardless of gender, race, religion (or lack thereof), sexual orientation, income level or political affiliation, deserve parity and equal opportunities.
